From Sawmills to Shops
Epoxy flooring in Odessa fits a place that has always had working buildings. The West Pasco Historical Society says the Dowling mill produced 100,000 board feet a day by 1917, and a turpentine operation ran here too. After freezes hurt the citrus that followed, the land shifted to what the society calls light industry and residential developments. Today that means both home garages and small business floors.
Light industrial floors
Shops, warehouses and service buildings along State Road 54 see forklifts, rolling carts and spills. Our recommendation is a base of 100% solids epoxy under a topcoat that resists chemicals, plus safety striping for aisles and storage. Work can be done in sections so a business stays open.
Lakes all around
The historical society mentions Calm Lake, Mound Lake and nearby Seven Springs, and Wikipedia lists about 0.33 of Odessa's 5.70 square miles as water. Lakeside lots often have damp slabs. Every floor gets a moisture test, and the result decides the primer.
Freezes shaped the land
Citrus groves replaced the old mill sites in the late 1920s, but freezes later hurt production. North of Tampa, winter mornings can still turn cool. We check slab temperature before starting and pick products that cure properly in cooler weather.
Bigger garages, more uses
If your lot has a three-car garage or a detached shop, it probably holds more than cars. Boats, trailers and lawn equipment take up as much room as cars. Flake sealed under polyaspartic stands up to trailer jacks and mower decks, and it cleans quickly.
Small town, two counties
Odessa's history ties to Pasco County, and the area extends into northern Hillsborough as well. Our process is the same on either side: inspect, test, grind, repair and coat.
Odessa History and Land
- Mill town. By 1917 the Dowling mill produced 100,000 board feet a day and the Lyon mill 80,000, per the West Pasco Historical Society.
- Named in 1888. Peter Demens of the Orange Belt Railway named Odessa in 1888, per the West Pasco Historical Society.
- Lakes and water. About 0.33 of Odessa's 5.70 square miles is water, and local lakes include Calm Lake and Mound Lake.
- Groves to light industry. Citrus gave way to light industry and residential development, largely because of freezes.

Odessa Questions
Can you coat a small warehouse off SR 54?
Yes. We install commercial epoxy with striping and can work in sections so you stay open.
Our home is on a lake. Will the floor hold up?
With the right prep, yes. Moisture gets tested first, and a damp reading means a moisture-tolerant primer.
What floor handles a boat trailer jack?
A flake floor over a thick base with a polyaspartic topcoat. Put a small pad under the jack foot for extra protection.
Do you work on both the Pasco and Hillsborough sides of Odessa?
Yes. The process is the same wherever your address falls.
