Waterfront Floors on the East Shore
Epoxy flooring in Apollo Beach has to stand up to salt. Perched roughly 7 feet above sea level on Tampa Bay's eastern shore, the community has an estimated 55 miles of canals running out to the bay, per Wikipedia. Salty air settles on every surface, garages fill with boat gear, and storms can push bay water inland. Each of those affects how we prepare and coat a slab.
Salt in the concrete
Salt residue on a garage floor is invisible but harmful. It draws moisture and can break the bond between concrete and coating. Before any work, we wash the slab thoroughly, let it dry and test it. If the floor took on seawater during a storm, the cleaning takes longer.
Helene's surge on the bay
During Hurricane Helene in September 2024, the NWS reported peak water levels of 5 to 8 feet above mean higher high water along coastal Hillsborough County. A USGS gauge at nearby Gibsonton logged 7.21 feet. Water at that level can reach low-lying garages. If yours took on water, we check the slab for damage and salt before planning a floor.
Boat and fishing gear
On a canal-front lot, the garage often holds outboard motors, rods, tackle and coolers. Fuel, saltwater drips and fish cleaning all land on the floor. A chemical-resistant polyaspartic topcoat over a flake base wipes clean and resists stains, and grit keeps it from getting slick.
Sun on every outdoor slab
Lanais and pool decks here face strong sun with little shade from the water side. We use light colors and UV-stable topcoats so outdoor floors stay cooler and do not yellow.
A community built from farmland
The Dickman family farmed and grazed this land starting in 1923, and development began after Francis Corr bought it in 1957. Local legend says the Apollo Beach name came along in 1958. Slabs date from many decades, so prep varies house to house. We look at each one in person.

- Nearby gauge. A USGS gauge at Gibsonton, just north, recorded 7.21 ft above MHHW during Hurricane Helene.

Apollo Beach Questions
Our garage flooded with bay water. Can it be coated?
Usually. We wash out salt, let the slab dry and test it. Damaged or flaking concrete is repaired before coating.
What floor works for storing a boat motor and fishing gear?
A flake base with a chemical-resistant polyaspartic topcoat and added grit. It handles fuel drips and saltwater and cleans easily.
Will salt air damage an epoxy floor?
A sealed, well-bonded coating holds up to salt much better than raw concrete does. Rinse it now and then to keep salt from building up.
Can you coat a pool deck facing the canal?
Yes. We use a light, UV-stable, slip-resistant system suited to full sun and wet feet.
